Carinus, as Caesar, 282-283. Antoninianus (Silvered bronze, 23 mm, 3.68 g, 6 h), Lugdunum, 282. CARINVS NOBIL CAES Radiate and cuirassed bust of Carinus to left, holding spear over his right shoulder and shield decorated with a gorgoneion on his left. Rev. PRINCIPI IVVENTVT Carinus standing left in military attire, holding globe in his right hand and inverted spear in his left; in field to left, C (retrograde). Bastien 486. Cohen 93. RIC 150. A rare variety. Very well centered and with an exceptionally crisp and sharp portrait. Flan crack and with a small spot of corrosion on the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
